LAMINATED GLASS- MARINE PRODUCTS
Depending on class, vessels use either tempered or laminated glass. Tempered is usually found on larger vessel while laminated is found on smaller. You will very rarely find ordinary float glass on a vessel of any size.
Tempered glass is made by heating and quenching a piece of glass. The benefits are glass that is roughly four to six times stronger than ordinary float glass. While stronger, it is more brittle. Therefore if it breaks it will explode into many small pieces of glass leaving the window open to the elements.
Laminated glass is made by bonding two or more lites together. While not as strong as tempered, it is stronger and more pliable than float glass. If the window is broken it will shatter but due to the lamination will hold together. Benefits include saftey, sound and solar control.
Seaclear combines both of these technologies to produce it's own laminated glass for the marine industry. By combining these you have a product that has the strength, saftey, durability and peace of mind.
